About Us

Formed in 2019, Bowerbird Art Classes is the creation of Karen Mazonas & Claire Philps, two artists local to Sydney’s Northern Beaches. They share a life long passion for art and instilling a love for creativity and the creative process in their students.

Karen is a professional Visual Artist who has worked in the textiles industry. In recent years, Karen has studied printmaking and has had her beautiful prints exhibited in galleries and exhibitions in NSW.

Claire is a Primary school teacher who has majored in Art Education. Claire has studied life drawing and painting under professional local artists over the years and loves nothing more than to paint and draw in her spare time.

Karen & Claire share a vision for providing local children with art lessons that have just the right balance of guidance and structure, yet still allow for the self expression of the individual artist to shine through.

Each lesson is thoughtfully prepared and allows children to develop their skills and creativity in using a range of materials. Themes covered are diverse and engaging for children.

Karen and Claire believe in fostering a fun and nurturing environment for their students to thrive in and believe that there is no “mistake” that their students cannot develop an innovative solution for.
